About the event

The Association of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Greece is proud to welcome Kathy Cooper, one of the first Western women to be introduced to the practice of Ashtanga Yoga in 1976. 

Kathy Cooper will teach a three-day workshop sharing insights from her long journey of 46 years of practice in Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga.

 BIO 

Kathy Cooper is a seniorAshtanga teacher of the first generation and has been practicing consistently since 1976. David Williams and Nancy Gilgoff were her first teachers, and David taught her all six series, originally known as Advanced A & B. The inherent wisdom of Ashtanga vinyasa yoga has led me on a transformative journey. Being present in the body through the connection to the breath and bandhas is the key which unlocks the blocks. This union is the place where the mental/emotional/physical bodies find their release and begin to unwind. Facing myself daily on the mat has opened the door to the deeper self, and I continue to release the conditioning of the body/mind. I value alignment as skillful means to reduce injuries and allow opening & deepening in practice. To pass on what I’ve gained through teaching, and to support students’ well-being and inner journeys is the reward for all that this path offers. (kathycooperyoga.com)

Program 

Friday 17th of February , 18.30 - 20.15 

The first day of the workshop,  Kathy will introduce herself and speak about the breath and the bandhas during the practice. A pranayama practice will follow the speaking and a short meditation at the closing.

Saturday 18th of February,  8.00 - 13.00 

8.00 - 10.00 : Morning Mysore Practice  

10.00 - 11.00 : One hour break  

11.00 - 13.00 : Kathy will speak about the healthy alignment (neck , shoulders , back ,  joints , and more ) in the Vinyasas and the asanas. All the attention will focused on healthy and safe practice.  

Sunday  19th of February,  8.00 - 12.30 

8.00 - 10.00 : Morning Mysore Practice  

10.00 - 11.00 : One hour break  

11.00 - 12.30 : Kathy will speak about the principles in backbending, leg behind the head asanas, etc. Questions and answers will close the seminar.
