Sharmila was born in Mysore and was blessed to grow up in a yoga family. From an early age, she and her brother Sharath began practicing yoga informally, imitating students who had come to study with their grandfather, the respected and world-renowned Shri K. Pattabhi Jois, known to his students as " Guruji ». She was showing off her skills to friends and neighbors, and she and Sharath were also asked to demonstrate at the local police station.

At the age of 18, Sharmila officially began to be guided by her mother every day after school in the afternoon classes. Sharmila has been practicing yoga continuously since the age of 18, with the exception of the first trimesters of her two pregnancies. She did Ashtanga Yoga under the guidance of her grandfather and thanks to his wisdom and the postures he gave her, she overcame the pain and was able to give birth to her daughter without the presence of a doctor. Her personal experience has shown how the Ashtanga system and methodology can support pregnancy and prepare a woman for childbirth. Sharmila loved the dynamics of teaching alongside her mother, whose natural feminine talent for combining power with tenderness began to finalize her own teaching style.

Sharmila teaches in Mysore and Bangalore. ( https://kpjayshala.com/biographies.html )
